Nautical Blue Pillow with embroidered Faith Block

Have you noticed our convenient Embroidered Faith Designs? This patchwork pillow was made using our Nautical Blue homespun fabrics and one of the white Embroidered Faith Designs. This time we used traditional stitching and did not do the ragged edges. We all love rag style but sometimes it's good to be a bit traditional. :-) But yes, we did a similar pillow in rag style also. You'll find pics of the rag pillow below.
To make a traditional pillow exactly like the one shown here, you will need:
The layout below demonstrates how that I used five different coordinated homespun fabrics. If you wish to replicate this, you will need approximately 1/2 yard of each of the five fabrics. This will allow you to double each square so it is self lined and will be sturdier. If you wish to only use a single layer square, you can cut that fabric yardage in half.
To make a traditional pillow exactly like the one shown here, you will need:
- 120 total 3.75 inch squares (approx 1.5 - 2.5 total yards)
- 5/8 yard for the pillow backing
- 1 Embroidered Faith Design
- 1 pillow form, 18 inches

This project is really fast and easy. If you have all the materials gathered up, it will just take a few hours.
If you want to make this with the ragged style, simply stitch with seam allowances exposed. Clip all your seam allowances and wash before inserting the pillow form. See detailed clipping instructions further down.
If you make one of these please send us a picture! We love seeing what our customers do and sharing their pictures on our Facebook page.
- Stitch your squares together using a 5/8" seam according to the diagram below. Or be creative and design your own layout! Don't forget to include the Faith Design in the center rows.
- Press your squares out flat. From the backing fabric cut 2 identical back panels to match the size of the front panel. Again, this is for durability. A single layer is little thin.
- Pin front to back with the right sides together. Stitch around the perimeter leaving a gap at the bottom to insert the pillow form. Turn inside out.
- Stitch 1 inch from the edge all the way around the perimeter to form a flange. Leave a gap at the bottom to match the outer gap.
- Insert the pillow form and close the outer gap with hand stitching. Machine stitch the remaining flange.

If you choose to do this pillow in the rag style, review the instructions below for clipping the seam allowances. You can either clip them before sewing or after sewing. Be very careful to avoid clipping too deep or clipping into the stitch line.
