Patchwork Ragged Homespun Tablecloth

This amazingly versatile ragged style tablecloth was created using green homespun fabric in various plaids and a stripe. The primitive colors lend a neutral background to all your holiday decorating and works perfectly for everyday decor as well. See more pictures below.
This particular size is 66" x 94". It was created using blocks of fabric that were cut 8" square. The squares were stitched together 10 rows wide by 14 rows long. You can easily adjust the width or the length by adding or deleting rows. We used a double layer square and did not add batting between the layers. This makes a lighter weight product that can be used as a throw also. Without batting, it is not necessary to stitch an X in each square so this method will let you finish up much faster which is always a bonus! But if you want the heavier weight, you can easily add a square of low loft batting in the center of each square. You will want to go over the basic concepts of rag style quilting here.
If you are using only homespun for this tablecloth project, it is not necessary to pre-wash the fabric before cutting and stitching. If you are combining homespun and regular quilting cotton, you'll need to pre-wash all fabrics because homespun will shrink more than quilting cotton. After piecing it all together, clip the exposed seam allowances according to the directions here: Clipping Seams for Rag Quilts. Then machine wash and dry it all to create all the fluffy ragged fray.
Of course, you are not limited to the green fabrics for this tablecloth style. The patchwork design looks great in many different combinations of our homespun fabrics. Shown below are some closer pics of this soft green tablecloth as well as other patchwork rag style tablecloths submitted by our customers. This pics show 6" and 10" squares as well as various finished sizes. This patchwork concept is super simple to customize to your own desired size.
