Appliqued Homespun Kitchen towels

Need a quick and easy hostess or teach gift?  A rag style applique on a homespun kitchen towel is adorable yet so easy and fast that it can be a beginner project.

Homespun towels are readily available many places online.  They are similar to our homespuns but they are made with a much heavier weight fabric.  Be sure to prewash your towel as well as any fabric that you intend to use for the applique.

Choose a simple appliqe design such a heart or star or go more complex like the gingerbread man shown to the right.  Stitch your applique directly onto the towel leaving about 1/4" exposed raw edge.  Make a few clips in this raw edge, especially in corners and curves.  Stitch on any embellishments/buttons now or wait and glue them on after washing.  Be sure to use a permanent fabric glue so your towel can remain beautiful after much use.
