Homespun Quilted Belt
This ragged quilted homespun belt is super quick and easy for beginners! The size can be adjusted by simply adding or removing blocks.. You can also tweak the size of the blocks to create your own design.
This can easily be made just using your homespun scraps but you'll want to be sure to use homespun fabric only because regular quilting cotton won't fray like this. We have lots of homespun fabric and charm packs available from our shopping pages.

Materials:
- 26-46 (depending on desired finished size) 3" x 4" homespun quilt squares*
- 1/4 yards stiff, dense quilt batting or felt
- 2- "D rings", 1.5-2 inches
- Buttons for embellishment
- Cut as many homespun squares as you anticipate you will need. Each block of the belt will use 2 homespun squares. In the photos above, 13 blocks (26 squares) were used to make a youth size 12/14 belt.
- Cut batting 1.5-2 inches smaller than your quilt squares.
- Center batting on one homespun square. Top with another homespun square to make a "sandwich".
- Stitch through all layers from corner to corner to form an X. (see photos below) Start and stop about 5/8" from the raw edges.
- All back stitching to secure the seams must be done 5/8" from all edges. Otherwise the back stitching will be lost when the homespun "frays".
- Stitch the squares together with a 5/8" seam, end to end. Back stitch occasionally and make these seams VERY secure. Stitch 5/8" from the edges all the way around the length of the belt on all sides.
- Clip the seams allowances and edges 1/2" deep and 1/2" apart being very careful to not clip into the stitching.
- Fold one end square over two D rings and stitch well.
- Machine wash and tumble dry to create fray. Liquid fabric softener will help remove the strings. Shake before drying to remove loose strings. Touch up with a lint roller afterwards.
- Embellish if desired with rhinestones, buttons or any other desired trim or embellishment to make it your own!
